The edifice founded by Dr. E. F. Gates, Virgil B. Kingsley and Mark T. Gates was dedicated on August 14, 1933, as a nonsectarian chapel for the people of the Bay District. Facing east with its windows open to the morn, this sanctuary is aptly named The Little Chapel of the Dawn.

Nestled among majestic, ages-old trees, the Little Chapel of the Dawn brings to Southern California the charm and peaceful beauty of an old ivy-mantled English village church. The entire south wall is a bank of vibrant flowers, and the music of our pipe organ and the songs of birds frequently fill the air.

In 1998, the firm of Moeller Murphy Funeral Home merged with Gates, Kingsley & Gates Funeral Directors as a proud member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

Today, we continue more than 75 years of service to the Santa Monica and surrounding communities.
